Black and Racialized Seniors Neighborhood Lab
Innovative Aging, Relational Health and Equity Research
WHO WE ARE

The Black and Racialized Seniors Neighborhood Lab, led by Dr. Blessing Ojembe at the University of Manitoba, conducts interdisciplinary research on the aging experiences of Black, racialized, and Indigenous older adult in Canada and Africa. Our work addresses social health, equity, and climate justice issues that disproportionately impact these communities, focusing on the compounded challenges of systemic racism and environmental inequities. Using community-based, co-production approaches, we collaborate directly with communities to ensure our research reflects real-world experiences, empowering older adults to share their voices and drive solutions to improve their health, social support, and justice. We also mentor students, particularly from underrepresented backgrounds, providing hands-on experience in aging-related issues and fostering future scholars and leaders dedicated to equity and inclusion. The lab is committed to advancing knowledge and promoting justice for Black, racialized, and Indigenous older adult .
